VLJ Training Changes - NBAA |

Now that very light jets (VLJs) have been in service for some time, NBAA’s Safety Committee, which met Saturday in conjunction with NBAA2008, has decided that it is time to revisit Section 3.5.1 of the NBAA Training Guidelines for Single-Pilot Operations of Very Light Jets and Technically Advanced Aircraft to see how advice for “mentor pilots” can be improved based on operational experience. Using input provided by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association and others, the NBAA Safety Committee hopes to produce a rewrite by yearend. |

Steve Fossett’s Airplane Found |

After 13 months and a massive search Madera County, California, Sheriff John Anderson announced that the Bellanca Super Decathlon in which adventurist Steve Fossett went missing in has been found near Mammoth Lakes, California. He also said there were no remains found at the crash site.
Earlier in the week hikers discovered several pieces of identification belonging to Fossett. A search latter discovered the wreckage of the Bellanca Fossett was flying 13 months earlier. The NTSB is investigating and has confirmed the wreckage (FAA Fatal Accident Report) . Fossett was declared legally dead by a Cook County (Illinois) judge in February 2008. |

Austria’s Hannes Arch won his second consecutive Red Bull Air Race today with a thrilling victory in Porto and Gaia in front of 650,000 spectators, beating American Kirby Chambliss and knocking Britain’s Paul Bonhomme off the top of the World Championship to take the lead.

For the rest of my life I will remember 2008 as the year I took the pilot’s pilgrimage to Oshkosh for the very first time. Those who know me know that I love my gadgets. So given that year in and year out EAA’s AirVenture sees the launch of the latest and greatest aviation gadgetry, I’ve had to account for why I hadn’t yet made the trip to Oshkosh. Well, no longer. |

RED BULL AIR RACE RETURNS TO PORTUGAL |

American Kirby Chambliss set a track record in a lightening-fast Qualifying session on Saturday in Porto, finishing ahead of Austria’s Hannes Arch and Britain’s Paul Bonhomme in a thrilling championship battle played out in front of 350,000 enthusiastic spectators watching from the banks of Porto and Gaia. Bonhomme and Arch are even in the championship with 45 points ahead of the final two races of 2008. |
