Symphony Aircraft Bankrupt

For the time being it looks like it’s over for Symphony Aircraft Industries.  With talks breaking down from an ‘angel’ investor the Quebec, Canada based company was forced to lay off all employees and declare bankruptcy.  The company shipped five aircraft in 2006 and has left customers who paid deposits without aircraft or any hope of getting their money back.

Super Bowl No Fly Zone

If you’re planning a sight seeing flight in the Miami area on Sunday, February 4th you better read up on the GA no-fly zone in the vicinity of  the Super Bowl site. There will be a 30-nm-radius TFR centered on the FLL VOR's 214-degree radial at 8.4 miles, extending up to FL180. It will be in effect from 4 p.m. until 11:59 p.m EST on Sunday. Additionally, there will be a smaller 10-nm-radius GA no-fly zone in effect within the larger TFR during that same time.

Airline Pilots to Fly to Age 65

With ICAO’s November stamp of approval on allowing airline pilots to fly beyond age 60 the FAA will propose new rules to raise the retirement age to 65.  In a speech at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., FAA Administrator Marion Blakey stated, “This is a change whose time has come.".

The new rule will allow one pilot in the cockpit to be over the age of 60 with a mandatory retirement age of 65. The entire process should take about two years to implement.

A spokeswoman for the Brazilian chief investigator has confirmed statements by lead investigator Renato Sayao to local media that Air traffic controllers share some of the blame for September's midair collision over the Amazon that killed 154 people in Brazil's worst air disaster.

MOONEY ACCLAIM CERTIFIED

Deliveries Begin for Fastest Mooney Ever - Mooney Airplane Company announced that the M20 TN Acclaim has received its final certification from the Federal Aviation Administration and deliveries are expected to begin immediately.  The fastest Mooney ever produced the 280 horsepower Acclaim cruises at a true air speed of 237 knots (KTAS) at its service ceiling of 25,000 feet.  Even at a lower cruising altitude of 10,000 feet, it will exceed 200 KTAS, making it the fastest airplane in its class.

First Eclipse Very Light Jet Delivered

Eclipse Aviation, manufacturer of the world’s first very light jet (VLJ), delivered its first customer aircraft last week at its headquarters in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ramping up to fulfill the backlog of more than 2,500 aircraft, the company already has 37 additional aircraft on its production line in various stages of assembly. Seven of these aircraft have completed final assembly and are being prepared for delivery. In the coming days, Eclipse will hold a delivery ceremony at the company headquarters.
