Aloha Airlines - Last Flight

Aloha Airlines announced today that it will be shutting down its inter-island and transpacific passenger flight operations. Alohas last day of operations will be Monday, March 31, 2008. On that day, Aloha will operate its schedule with the exception of flights from Hawaii to the West Coast and flights from Orange County to Reno and Sacramento, and Oakland to Las Vegas. Code-share partner United Airlines and other airlines are prepared to assist and accommodate Alohas passengers who have been inconvenienced.

2007 RECORD YEAR FOR GENERAL AVIATION MANUFACTURERS

GAMAThe General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) announced that the 2007 year-end shipment figures for the general aviation industry have led to another record high in industry billings.
 
Speaking at GAMA’s Annual Industry Review and Market Outlook Briefing, GAMA Chairman and Chairman and CEO of Cirrus Design Corporation, Alan Klapmeier, reported that a strong worldwide market, especially outside of North America, was a driving factor for general aviation in 2007. “As these economies continue to expand, we expect general aviation to play an ever increasing role in these regions.” Klapmeier added, “Manufacturer backlogs are strong and we think this bodes well for 2008 and the years beyond.”

Adam Aircraft Suspends Operations

In a brief press release this morning, Adam Aircraft the manufacturer of the A500 push/pull piston twin and the and the A700 very light jet announced that operations had been suspended due to the company’s inability to come to terms with their lender regarding financing ongoing operations.

Red Bull Air Races 2008

Sweden was today unveiled as the latest country to host a round of the incredible Red Bull Air Race World Series. The announcement that a race will be held in Stockholm for the first time was made by Bernd Loidl (CEO) in the dramatic surrounds of Hangar-7 at Salzburg Airport in Austria.

FAA - Increase in Operational Errors

SAN DIEGO – The Federal Aviation Administration’s air traffic manager for the Southern California Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) facility issued a memo on Wednesday to all air traffic personnel immediately stopping all on-the-job training for one week in response to what she described as a “recent spike in Operational Errors/Operational Deviations,” which are incidents where controller mistakes result in aircraft coming closer to each other than FAA safety rules allow.

SpaceShipTwo - Richard Branson

Today, appearing in New York, Sir Richard Branson unveiled the final plans of the launch platform that will take passengers into space.  The concept is simple and was designed by renowned aviation pioneer Burt Rutan.  The design has a larger mother ship ferrying a smaller craft which will detach and complete the space flight.  The two vehicles are based on Rutan’s SpaceShipOne, which won the $10 million Ansari X prize in 2004.
