Twenty Rare WW2 Spitfires Discovered

Twenty rare Spitfire aircraft buried in Burma during the Second World War are to be repatriated to Britain.  The search for the aircraft was driven by David Cundall, a 62 year old British citizen who spent 15 years searching for the Mk II aircraft. After spending more than £130,000 of his own money and visiting the island nation more than 12 times has finally reaped rewards.

Cessna and AVIC Join Forces in China

CessnaCessna Aircraft Company and Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) are signing two strategic agreements to jointly develop general and business aviation in the People's Republic of China. The agreements together pave the way for a range of business jets, utility single-engine turboprops and single-engine piston aircraft to be manufactured and certified in China. The first agreement between AVIC and Cessna is an overarching agreement between these companies that is intended to lead to the formation of joint ventures that will pursue various activities pertaining to the development of general aviation businesses in China, including the establishment of an aircraft service network in China.

ICON recently announced that the A5 will be the first production aircraft in history to be designed to and completely comply with the Federal Aviation Administration's demanding full-envelope Part 23 spin-resistance standards once in production. This is a tremendous advancement for light aircraft safety that can dramatically reduce the number of loss-of-control accidents resulting from stall/spin scenarios, which are the most significant causes of fatal pilot-related General Aviation accidents.

Manufacturers delivered 369 general aviation aircraft in the first quarter, compared to 377 in the same quarter last year. During the first quarter, manufacturers shipped 369 planes, down from 377 a year ago.

Suspected controller errors in 2010 hit 1,887 from 1,233 the previous year, according to the FAA. More than half were considered relatively minor, but reports in the most severe category rose to 43 from 37, FAA figures show.

 

 The Federal Aviation Administration today dedicated a new airport traffic control tower for LaGuardia Airport (LGA) that will replace the one that has served the airport since 1964.  In 2010, air traffic controllers at LGA handled nearly 400,000 takeoffs and landings.

A massive air and water search has failed to find any trace of Richard Abruzzo, his companion or his balloon. The pair went missing Wednesday morning during a thunderstorm, five days after taking off from Bristol. The two were competing in the 54th Gordon Bennett Gas Balloon Race, which has attracted the world's top balloonists.
