Avidyne Primary Flight Displays installed in Cirrus, Columbia and Piper airplanes are subject to a FAA Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin advising of modifications available to eliminate the possibility that the system will display misleading attitude and heading information.
The FAA SAIB states “Avidyne originally issued Service Alert SA-05-001 informing you of several field reports of PFDs displaying incorrect attitude and heading information. These occurrences were accompanied by a “CROSS CHECK ATTITUDE” alert annunciation within approximately 45 seconds after initiation of the condition. In response to the Service Alert, we issued SAIB CE-06-07 to advise Cirrus owners of the potential problem and recommend increased attention to standard and emergency operating procedures when flying in Instrument Metrological Conditions (IMC).
The units can be modified and owners should contact Avidyne to ensure that modification is completed. The SAIB contains a list of aircraft and serial numbers.
