If you’re planning a sight seeing flight in the Miami area on Sunday, February 4th you better read up on the GA no-fly zone in the vicinity of the Super Bowl site. There will be a 30-nm-radius TFR centered on the FLL VOR's 214-degree radial at 8.4 miles, extending up to FL180. It will be in effect from 4 p.m. until 11:59 p.m EST on Sunday. Additionally, there will be a smaller 10-nm-radius GA no-fly zone in effect within the larger TFR during that same time.
This is a great time to review other flight restrictions even if you are not in the Miami area. Things like Speedways, Major League Stadiums and nuclear plants should be avoided. The following blanket NOTAM should make GA pilots cognisant of such areas. SPECIAL NOTICE... THIS IS A RESTATEMENT OF A PREVIOUSLY ISSUED ADVISORY NOTICE. IN THE INTEREST OF NATIONAL SECURITY AND TO THE EXTENT PRACTICABLE, PILOTS ARE STRONGLY ADVISED TO AVOID THE AIRSPACE ABOVE, OR IN PROXIMITY TO SUCH SITES AS POWER PLANTS (NUCLEAR, HYDRO-ELECTRIC, OR COAL), DAMS, REFINERIES, INDUSTRIAL COMPLEXES, MILITARY FACILITIES AND OTHER SIMILAR FACILITIES. PILOTS SHOULD NOT CIRCLE AS TO LOITER IN THE VICINITY OVER THESE TYPES OF FACILITIES. |
