A horrified crowd of air show spectators watched as veteran air show performer Jim LeRoy failed to pull out of a dive in time – his aerobatic aircraft pancaked into the ground and burst into flames. Pilot Jim LeRoy of Billings, Montana, died on the way to the hospital after his S2S Bulldog biplane crashed at the end of a runway at Dayton International Airport in Ohio.

Officials of the Dayton Air Show on Saturday issued this statement:

The Vectren Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger will continue flying as planned on Sunday, July 29 after the fatal accident of veteran pilot Jim LeRoy on Saturday. The Vectren Dayton Air Show team expresses its condolences to the LeRoy family.
