Experimental Airplane Crashes on Takeoff PDF Print E-mail

On August 19, 2007, at 0928 eastern daylight time, a Thorp T-18 experimental airplane, N6GN, registered to a private individual, operating as a 14 CFR Part 91 personal flight, collided with the ground shortly after takeoff from the Willington Aero Club Airport in Wellington, Florida. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed for the local flight. The airplane sustained substantial damage, and the private pilot and passenger received fatal injuries. The flight was originating at the time of the accident.

Witnesses reported to an FAA Inspector that shortly after take-off, the engine of N6GN lost power, the airplane rolled to the left, and impacted the ground in a nose down attitude.
