Fatal Biennial Flight Review |

On September 3, 2007, at 1358 central daylight time, a Yakovlev Yak 52, N212YA, collided with the terrain shortly after taking off from runway 26 ( 3,058 feet by 50 feet) at the Lake-in-the-Hills Airport (3CK), Lake-in-the-Hills, Illinois. Both the ATP/CFI and the private pilot on board were fatally injured. The airplane was substantially damaged. The 14 CFR Part 91 local flight was originating at the time of the accident. Visual meteorological conditions existed and no flight plan was filed. Witnesses reported seeing the airplane lift off the runway and level off. They reported the landing gear retracted and the airplane began a left descending turn. The airplane contacted marshy terrain in a conservation area. The purpose of the flight was for the private pilot to receive a biennial flight review.
